Game crashes during battles

I installed the game just recently.
Every time I enter a combat (either thru the "Super-Melee!" mode or the campaign mode), I can only fight for several seconds (a bit more on the "Super-Melee!" mode than the campaign combats) as the game crashes.
It also crashes instantly if I try to use a ship's special ability.
Is there a solution for this problem? Embarrassed

We have at at least one testcase that  shows a similar behaviour, that we are working on (but no solution yet).  I'm not sure if it will redmedy your instant  crash on using special ability.

I can confirm the crashing im melee combat.  I havent expirenced the crashing as soon as using the secondary wepon.

I understand that you dont want any bug reports here but Im merely confirming that this bug exists.  I also added it here because I couldnt find it on bugzilla but didnt want to post it as a new bug because it would take the developers time to review the post.  I hope im not causing a problem for the board.

Not sure if this relates, but anyway...

I had similar problems with combat crashing in the exe I built from source using VC++ 6.0 on WinXP.  The crash point was in TFB_BBox_RegisterCanvas, from libs/graphics/sdl/bbox.c, called from TFB_FlushGraphics in response to a TFB_DRAWCOMMANDTYPE_IMAGE.  Seems the ScaledImg was NULL, which caused TFB_BBox_RegisterCanvas to die horribly.

I dropped in a few printf()s to try to isolate the cause - creation of the scaled image, posting to the queue, etc - but failed to locate the problem.  It seems like the ScaledImg pointer is being NULLed at some point between being posted to the event queue and being removed again.

I've just barely started figuring out how the game code fits together, and VC++ isn't my primary development environment, so that's as far as I've gotten.

This is now fixed in the latest CVS build.

Perhaps Striker or some other kind soul will begin building development builds again soon.
