So we don't spam Death999 with double spam topics! (he can then get email notifications)

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

All sorts of possibilities. Like, posts and comments by newbies (people whose first post is less than 24 hours old) aren't visible to anyone but themselves and mods. So if they post spam, you never have to see it.
Anyway, going this far isn't really necessary - I just posted the note because someone notified me of every one of like 8 spam messages. If three people tell me there's a spammer, that's fine.

Why? This board is old, there are much newer versions available. This board enjoys a low frequency of visitors, there isn't much reason to invest a lot of time hardening this board against spam. the effort spent by one doesn't weigh up against the gains of the few actual users. Our target auditorium is above a certain minimum age, and more than capable of determining to ignore spam themselves. If you see spam, just report one of the spam threads to send a PM/mail to one of the mods/admins, and it'll be taken care of. No need to report more than one post per visit you do, as the mods will be notified even if you report just one spam post. And once they come in anyway, this board is slow moving, so they can easily identify all posts since last mod visit, and kick all spams among those, even those not having been reported.
Death just wanted to avoid being flooded by PMs/mails, that scream "SPAM, attention to me, SPAM on UQM forum, SPAM ALARM! SPAM. SPAM SPAM (without ham!). SPAM"
I, personally, find the spam here adequately treated.

I think you grossly overestimate the effort required. Just let me handle upgrading the forum.

Because I asked people not to report spam excessively. Scalare decided that to help, you should say when you reported. I said that wasn't necessary - just report once and that's enough. And then it became the spam complaint thread.
