Where are these egg-shells? I only ever found one Mycon egg-shell i.e. the one they tell you about. Where are the other two? Actually Azarule, I checked. The Melnorme never mention where to find the Mycon Egg Cases. In fact, the only one who seems to mention anything about the Mycon in terms of useful artifacts are the Yehat.
***SPOILER Location of Mycon Egg Cases SPOILER***
Ok, I decided to go and search their space and I have found three. They are on shattered worlds in:
B. Copernicus G. Brahe G. Scorpii
I also did the fuel fill-up trick with the Druuge. I figure you leave Earth with 16 units of fuel, use the Portal Spawner (which uses 10), fly to coordinates 488:538 in Quasi-Space, fly to Z. Persei ... takes about 5 units of fuel. Go to the first planet. Since I wasn't going to save this, I decided to sell the portal spawner to see this. I ended up with 1510 fuel units and further enjoyment of this game. I never even conceived that you could pull such a dirty trick. After trading the Burvixese caster for the Red Orb, I usually never went back to the Druuge again. I dislike the idea of selling my crew and if I recall, it does make the purchase of new crew expensive. And selling the Spawner or Shofixti Females is idiotic. I don't care for the Druuge Mauler, so I saw no reason ever to return even to trade the Mycon Egg Cases and then sell off the Maulers ... I wouldn't even waste the fuel.
Thanks flashbacck for showing me that even an old game has new surprises.

I found 2 without even trying, I thought it was pretty easy actually... near their homeworld or whatever, the couple of solar systems have shattered worlds very close to the sun, almost like the rainbow worlds...

Speaking in terms of the original SC2 game, I always was able to trade a Mycon Egg Shell for the red orb. Then I'd go back with fuel tanks and trade them the caster for all the fuel my ship could hold, then go back to base and subtract out the fuel for RU....real neat way to build your RU too. 1000 units X 20 RU = 20000RU. I do this with the Melnorme too once I buy all the technology and have something like 2000 credits left or whatever (you don't have to buy the information he has to finish the game).
I do very little mining (enough to get my thrusters and landers and support my missions) for the sake of mining...often times I just leave my cargo bay there and pick up all the radioactives off the rainbow worlds and the shattered worlds - it works to support my missions if I have to.

Why would they want the eggshells anyways?
I believe the Druuge inform you that they use the eggshell's fungal fibers to create inescapble slave harnesses for their slave crew. Which to be honest, makes me feel a bit less enthusiastic about selling them the egg cases. But still better than 50 of your crew, I suppose.
It's especially fulfilling to fill up your ship with tons of fuel tanks and then trade an egg shell for max. fuel. Ahhh... ripping off the Drudge.
Yes, it feels quite amusing to see the '1610' fuel units listed on the screen. An easy 32200 RU, pretty much most of what you need to completely outfit your Precursor ship with everything you could want. (except a complete armada of fighting ships).
I wonder if you can do this with both the Burvix Caster and the Mycon Shell, or if the Druuge refuses to fall for the same ploy twice...
I've never had the Trader offer the fuel refill for the Eggshells in the PC version, though-- he only offers me a Mauler starship. So as far as I know, you can only do this trick with the Caster (unless you really want to trade the Portal Spawner or the Shofixiti females.)

They use the fungal mats as super-strong netting to keep their slaves in line. At least that's what I read in the background stories on some of the sites around...
