Stream/YouTube licensing?
« on: January 04, 2021, 10:05:48 pm »

Hey folks.  I'm a long time fan of StarCon2/UQM, and recently became a Twitch streamer and YTer (with very few viewers on either platform ).  I'm thinking about playing UQM on stream (and then publishing the videos to YT), and wondering if this is permitted by the UQM creators/copyright owners and if there are any known issues with doing this.

If it matters, I'm not monetized on either Twitch or YT at this time, though that might change in the future.

I think it should be fine; a video like that probably falls within fair use.

Even if it did not, UQM's content copyrights are under a Creative Commons Non-commercial license, so as long as your own video was under a compatible license, it would be permitted.

Thanks. It's more or less what I figured, but I always like to check.

If nothing else, in the past, I've run across game content creators who license their work under permissive licenses like CC-NA, but ask that people not stream/YT.  So even if it's legal, out of respect for the creator, I prefer to make sure they are ok with it.

I suspect in this case, if there was a reason against streaming/YT of UQM, this post would have been mobbed by people saying "don't do it" Smiley

There are already feeds of people playing out there, so why stop you from doing it?

This game is so great, despite being old, it can use some spotlights.

Enjoy, and good luck!

Well, don't those two comments look suspicious next to each other? 1 comment each, but no spam links. I wonder what could be going on.

Too old software on this site, the spam bot couldn't insert the spam links....
(That would be my guess)

Create a user, post once to avoid rules that autodelete accounts with no posts, wait around until the account ages a bit to avoid rules that limit new posters, then spam everything?
