"There's no fighting in a war room!" - Strangelove

Just got broadband, and I'm looking to get into a good online-only game. Everquest seems like the frontrunner, but I've got my eye on some new game called EVE online coming out May 6th. All recommendations would be appreciated. Also, if anyone's played Freelancer, please tell me if it's worth buying. Thanks much.

EVE will probably be quite bad. You've been warned .
Freelancer is *ok* but the side missions get repetitive very quickly.
Everquest...eh. It is of course extremely popular, but it never really struck my fancy. Honestly, I would suggest waiting for Star Wars Galaxies. I've been following its development, and it seems quite promising. The only thing is that while it's in the final phase of Beta right now, it probably won't be coming out until June or so.

First of all, you kick ass for having an Optimus avatar.
Second of all... I agree that Star Wars Galaxies looks and sounds like it's going to be awesome. Now we just need to see if it ever stops being delayed...
As for Everquest, I found it rather boring. Ultima Online was much better, before they twinked it.

My best friend's father is the art designer for this game. It's nothing like Everquest, of course, but it's extremely entertaining, in a totally different way.

Battle.net, eh? I got sort of sick of Warcraft III after playing it frequently for a month, but I'll be playing it like an addict again once Frozen Throne comes out.

Civilization II.
Actually, right now, I'm playing an engrossing game of Axis & Allies (board game) I can't stop thinking of the tricky problem of how to make Japan win WWII.

Skip Civ II and play freeCiv. It's got a metaserver so you can always find an open game. http://www.freeciv.org - The main site (windows and any-platform source downloads here) http://pubserver.freeciv.org - The results page for the main public server. Each game gets most of its final data stored here, including an animated gif history map.
This will suck your time away.

Warcraft is all well and good. I dunno though, after buying starcraft a couple years before and getting addicted to battle.net through it, I didn't really see the thrill of playing Warcraft 3. Sure the graphics are great, but that doesnt matter too much to me. Is anyone here still addicted to Brood War? OK! I admit it! the only online game I play these days is Starcraft/Brood War.. Hey! don't blame me! it's the only game my fabolous p2-350 with its amazing 96' 2D graphics card and swift 128MB of SDRAM can run! ha! let's see you compete with that..
And as for the thread - well, it's a big secret, and not even the developers of this game know this, but there's this amazing space-adventure and melee game that will soon start developing called UQM2 that's supposed to be the best ever! with internet support! shhhhhhhh don't tell anyone!
