Anyone know how to get uqm in ascii mode?? I've seen the screenshots and now i want to try it.

It didn't work all that well for me, but then again I was trying to get it to not go into ASCII mode.  Smiley

Short form, you need to be running some flavour of UNIX-like OS, and your SDL library needs to be built with support for aalib.  Then you set an environment variable named SDL_VIDEODRIVER to the value 'aalib', and run the game from a text console.  Violent action ensues.  Wink

Also, this post really belongs in the "Technical Issues" forum.  Please be mindful of the distinction when posting in the future.

Too bad, Ur-Quan Nethack is a joke. But the screen shots of UQM running with aalib can be found at http://sc2.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html (actually, it's only one, and it's from pre 0.1, which used the 3DO title screen).
But you can try running it yourself in aalib, as mentioned above. I personally had problems with keyboard input there though on some systems.
