I'm going to see matrix 2 in a few minutes so i'll just start off the first few off the top of my head and other people can chip in a few...
(They are using - I pick)
Chmmr - Orz (just crank that gun backwards and keep your thrusters burning hot, even with tractor they can't quite catch you... unless you hit something)
Kohr-Ah - Utwig
Kzer-Za - Earthling (find the nearest gravity well right away of course)

I can never get the Broodhome to do much against the Avatar. Should I try to align my shots with the laser (allowing them to shield me) or should I try to get them around it (so they aren't sliced and diced)?

Traddash vs. Yehat AI. Lure AI Yehat ships into the afterburner exhaust.
Any ship w/ powerful or fast ROF weapon vs. Traddash AI. If you just stand still, the Traddash AI tends to charge straight at you. When they're at nearly point blank range, open fire. Changes are that the Traddash ship is toasted.
ZFP vs. Ur-Quan. Wear them down by shooting their fighters with the antimatter gun and then finish the job with a tongue attack.
Supox vs. Ur-Quan. Same tactics as with ZFP, just without the tongue attack.
Utwig vs. Ur-Quan. Go to point blank range and let them empty their batteries against your shield, then go trigger happy. This might work against Kohr-Ah too, but I haven't tested.
Spathi vs. Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah. Evade their shots and B.U.T.T them to death.
Pkunk vs. pretty much anything. Hit and run. Fly by the enemy, shoot it with the multi-directional cannon, reload and repeat.
Pkunk ships are also quite effecient at destroying Ur-Quan fighters.

Except androsyn, arilou, Chenjesu, shofixti.... ok not all.

Is there a way to recharge the Uttwig's shields? I tried every key I could think of and had no luck.

If only someone would have had the forethought to write down the answers to such questions somewhere, like a manual. Then they could distribute it with the game, with an obvious name like "manual.txt", and people could read it to get basic information about how to play the game.
That would be really cool. Somebody should really think about doing that. What, they did? Oh, nevermind then.

There's a manual? I guess I wasn't looking for one since I know the game...
As for the Utwig... use your shield only when you need to. It'll last a LOT longer that way.

Yehat VS Earthling (use the shield every time they shoot a missle and when you close to them start shooting).
Spathi VS Prob (keep distance and fire from behind).
Earthling VS Vux (keep distance and fire missles on them).

Perhaps the manual.txt should be in the OS X disk image. Anyway, I like using the Pkunk agains the Sa Matra.
