Intro/End Movies
« on: June 10, 2003, 10:18:21 pm »

After a week or two of playing, I finnaly won the game.

Unfortunately there is no End Game movie.

And just directly bumping to credits gives me some sort of shallow victory.

Now, I'm curios.
I have a question for those who won the game in old SC2-PC version (I never won the game 10 years ago when I first played it).

What exactly happens after you destroy the battleship?
Posting the end-game text would be welcome.

P.S.
To conversion team:
I hope you'll finish end-move one day.

Conversion, as now, looks excellent, exempt some random crashes when tring to save/load the game (10-20% chance of happening) and when being in battle mod (less then 5% per battle if human controled, or 10-20% if cyborg controlled).

Cut to view of THE CAPTAIN on the inside of the blue escape pod, face and hands plastered against the window, as the timer counts down and the sa-matra complex recedes into the distance. A moment after it reaches 00.0, there is a gigantic white flash.

Fade-in Talana on a starry background. (ending.1.png)
final1.txt:
"When I awoke, there was an angel floating above me."
"I knew I was dead."
"But if one HAS to die, I thought to myself..."
"...this was definitely the RIGHT way to be dead."
"That was about the time I heard Talana's voice..."
"...telling me to stop babbling and listen for a moment."
"She told me that the escape pod had almost been torn in half."
"I had been unconscious for over three weeks..."
"...but my crew and I had succeeded in our mission! "
"The force of the explosion, amplified by the Chmmr crystals..."
"...had been sufficient to vaporize the Sa-Matra!"
"And following the destruction of the Sa-Matra battle platform..."
"...the fleets of the Ur-Quan and the Kohr-Ah had fallen into chaos..."
"...and had been vanquished by Chmmr forces and allied starships."
"Then Talana told me to sit up."
"She said there was something she thought I'd like to see..."

Captain is in bed. Talana is standing next to him. They are looking out over the slave-shielded Earth. (ending.2.png)
final2.txt:
"I pulled myself up and looked around..."
"...I was in Sick Bay of the Starbase, looking out over Earth."
"Beneath me throbbed the sick red glow of the Ur-Quan slave shield."
"Talana smiled and said that for the past few days..."
"the Chmmr had been working on lowering the shield..."
"and that it should be neutralized right about... Now!"

unsurprisingly, shield falls. Earth glows in its usual green-blue manner. (ending.3.png)
"With a flare of incandescent light, the slave shield vanished..."
"...and for the first time in my life I saw the true colors of Earth..."
"...blues and greens in a thousand different shades."
"As we watched, we could see the first signs of ships coming up from Earth."
"They lifted from the planet's surface to join us in space."
"The destiny of Mankind had been delayed for over twenty years..."
"...but now our world was free and nothing could stop us!"
"I stayed in that hospital for almost a month..."
"...but that day..."
"...that day I watched the shield fall and beautiful Talana stood at my side..."
"I'll never forget that day. Not for the rest of my life..."

fade-out. Fade in a picture of an aged captain sitting against a tree with a little blonde girl and a brown-haired boy sitting nearby. (ending.4.png)
"But Grandfather then what happened?"
"Yeah! How did you get home?"
"How long did it take before you and Grandma finally got married?"
... something happens, I forget
"Oh, while we intended to come right home..."
"...we got a little sidetracked."
"Talana and I didn't make it back here to Unzervalt until almost five years later."
"But Grandfather! What happened? Where did you go?"
"And how did you find the Mark II?"

Pan up to a picture of a gigantic technological... thingy. City? Spaceship? Both? (ending.5.png)
final6.txt:
"That, my children, is an entirely different story... ..."

Jump to a communications screen. One by one, some of the alien races say fourth-wall breaking things. This is very funny, but it's also outside the scope of the game itself, and rather long, so I'll leave it out. You can read these by looking at the top entry in most of the comm text files in the content directories.

Run credits.

(thanks to the comment below for catching the joke comm section)

Thanks.

By the way, after some poking around, I just found something in
The Ur-Quan Masters\content\slides\ending folder.

All those files needed for slide show in PC version (pictures and text).

Is that from were you have taken the quotes?

With all those files already there in v0.2 I woner why this wasn't already implemented.  Huh

Well, they wanted to get the full sequence sooner or later, and they felt that hooking up a temporary solution that they would eventually scrap, to a game non-critical problem, was not worth doing. A full cinematic will *eventually* be worked out; before that point, it's bottom priority (just above, say, coding in a DWIMy speech synthesizer so that the alien captains can say the name you entered for yourself)

Depends how you look at it.

If you have a 33.6-56k modem, then slideshow Intro/End and no voice version would be FINAL solution not temporary.

I'm surprised noone put in a 'correct' version of the ending in here...

One where Zelnick tries to activate the escape pod, but the lever breaks, and so he goes insane and together with the Dnyarri and Fwiffo he dons on his Taalo Mind Helmet goes on a Rambo-like quest to rid all the halls of the Sa-Matra of all the Ur-Quans present with his trusty Wimbli's Trident. Then he takes control of the helm of the Sa Matra and proceeds to lay waste to most of Ur-Quan, VUX, Mycon, and Druuge space, going insane with the power trip and only stopping when Talana and a group of Shofixti female ninjas slip on board the Sa-Matra and proceed to incapacitate the Dnyarri and Fwiffo, and Talana shows the function of her outfit's dagger by slitting his throat.

Oh, yeah. Fortunately, it wasn't fatal. The Umgah then implant the talking pet into where his voice box used to be -- now he can talk in any language! He then understands the Orz, and goes around telling Kohr-Ah the <reverb> secrets man was not meant to know </reverb>, thus decimating their ranks.
Unfortunately, the ranks of the Orz are now swelled by the large number of ex-Kohr-Ah. Also, finally the Captain is taken by the Orz
Talana takes a large number of mind-controlled Mycon and allies with the Arilou to take out the Orz. In the center of *Below* (which HAS a center), are three quarters of all the Kohr-Ah, all the Androsynth, and the Captain, all zombified.

In a vicious fungus-spilling battle, they are freed, only to find that *Below* was cut loose and is drifting away from *heavy space*!

You guys forgot to mention the credits which IMHO was the best part of ending in PC verision SC2 which feature some last mintue quotes from many of the races in game which some of them were quite funny...

Threadjacking is when someone turns a thread totally away from its original issue, thus disrupting the flow of information, and the reason for the thread in the first place, no?

Whereas here we have a thread, where the relevant questions asked in the first post have been answered. Everyone is happy, answers have been given, problems have gone away. Then rather than letting the thread just die, we sometimes engage in social banter, both to learn more about eachother as unique individuals and to amuse both ourselves and our peers.

So technically, it's not thread jacking, but rather a warm fuzzy social cometogether. Feel free to join!

EDIT: DOH! just realised that you were actually the one to start this thread...  Embarrassed Are there any other questions bout the intro/end you want/need answered, or can we go back to honing our social skills?

Well, that part wasn't in the 3DO version if memory serves me corectly. At least I know there's no voices for ti, they kinda forgot to record it. And seeing as the PC code is lost in the twists od time, that part is simply lost. I suppose it wouldn't be that hard for the programmers to add it (it's only a few conversation screens, and we can get the text easily enough), but it'd still be voiceless... As to wether they mean to do it... Any team member wanna take this one?

Huh? The PC credits sequence (minus the credits, amusingly) has been in UQM CVS for a week or two. Now, if only we had a time machine so we could remind Paul and Fred to record the voices for the credits sequence... Grin

Just pay the original voice actors and sound editors a small fee to record em? Saves you the hassle of building a time machine alltogether.
You're assuming that they're all still alive and well and their voices haven't changed too much. Still, that would probably work quite well in most of the cases.
