After SC2 port is finished, what to do next?
« on: June 25, 2003, 02:49:28 am »

It looks that some people are already working on remixing the music.

Here are some suggestions.

Upgrading some parts of interface would be good to in order to increase gameplay value.

Like:
-autosave and quick load/save feature
-some sort of automated resource gathering AI to help in later game, when gathering of resources could become boring (should be good enough to keep crew alive after getting all lander upgrades), such AI could even be some sort of tech sold by Melnorme Traders
-ship log, to help you not have notepad all the time while playing the game (should include discovered game-plot info and things like which systems/plantes are "cleared up" of resources)

After that is done, maybe some eXpansion-like features could be added.

Like adding extra subplots in regular game, or making some sort of small-campaign/short-story by using SC2 RPG engine. Could be something about things not expained in main plot, or some evens that happend before or after the main plot.

Making network melee could be an option too.

P.S.
Of course, there is also an option of making a real sequel, but somehow I don't think that it would be easy (look SC:TimeWarp for example).

yeah a co-ordinate log would be handy

but having to write them down does make you pay attanetion more to whats going on

redo the entire thing

it does say that they have the original music and graphic artists working on new stuff.. which is cool...

a remake could work well... but yeah a sequel would be cool... one that ignores sc3 and star con and any other weirdo sequels Smiley

It's a shame that they say theyve got all the content creation areas covered.. I'm a 3d artist and as a massive fan of Star contrl 1 and 2 it would be so awesome to work on something for it

however yeah they've got the original artists working on it so you cant really argue with that Smiley

wah wah wah. If you want automatic resource gathering, play SC3.
Anyway, how would it react to inclement weather or tectonics or hotspots? Arilou-like reaction time? Or would it ignore it?

I have found pencil and paper notes far far superior to the most carefully executed in-game note-taking system I've ever seen (in Ambrosia Software's otherwise mediocre Cythera, IIRC)... and it takes 0 time to develop! Alternately, for those who don't play full-screen, text files.

yeah i tend to agree

you dont need automatic resource gathering

its part of the length of the game that makes it so interesting

anyway you can just go around and free the chmrr really quickly to avoid it Smiley

Since the point of such system would be to speed up gathering, but NOT to make obsolete manual contols, AI logic should be good enough to sweep non-hotile worlds and hosilte worlds if havng all protective upgrades.
Simple go to this point then to next closes pot and then again, etc...

It should be cathastopphic using such AI without any lander upgardes.

That way in would still make fun parts of gathering intersing.
Like dodging tectonics (before getting protection upgrades) and shooting hostile creatures .
But boooring parts would be speeded up.

Also, making dumbed down AI would drain less programing resouces.

Actualty, as far as I know, having no any kind of ship log system kept me from finishing this game 8 years ago. That's also a true for lot of my firends who played the game in that time too.

Today, since I'm more experinced gamer I have no problem with this. But 50% of newbies would have.

From the programming part you would need interface for ship log and planting lots of triggers.

The most booring part was making a map and then maping all exsits for wormholes to speed up game later (most boooring hour of SCII).

Still even the way it is, this game is fantasting.
I'm only proposing this which could streamline gameplay and attract more new players.

It was never the graphic which made this game good.
It was the gameplay.
That's why I was proposiong gameplay tweaks.

P.S.
Hmm...
Let's see my SCII gameplay notes...

The reason you get infinite RUs after Utwig bomb is attached by the Chmmr onto you flagship after the modfications are done not only you cannot escape from losing battle with your flagship as the Commander Hayes mentions but, you cannot use planetary landers since the escape pod occupies the space for the landers

Well, that's not WHY you get infinite RU's. That's just a restriction that comes at the same time as the infinite RU's.

Though at that point you are pretty much screwed for optional quests like the Shofixti females/VUX Beast.

Yes, it's a good reason not to do it with things as they stand... but this doesn't explain why you don't get infinite RUs the moment you free the Chmmr.

I feel opposed to Player1's ideas for the most part, except that adding a little more stuff to do in the story mode is always a good idea.

But the feature I want to try out most is online melee against other people. If I could add only one thing to this game, that would be it.

Without the Utwig Bomb and equipping your ship, the Chmmr give you squat. I tried that once, freeing the Chmmr first, thus trying to get infinite RU. Didn't work, they told me something like: Unfortunately we cannot help you until you find the means of destroying ..... Or something like that.

ahh nuts

oh well
