#1.What came with the original game. I have PDFs of the instruction booklet, the resource guide (hint book), and the map. The map, however, I'm not sure is legit; although it has a copyright notice on it, it also lists the spheres of influence of almost all the species, as well as pointing out Areas of Interest. Did the map that came with the game really reveal that much?
1a.(Also, does anyone have a JPG, GIF, or PNG of that map? I find it really hard to read, divided among 9 PDF pages like it is.)
#2.Are there supposed to be sound effects in battle, or just music?
2a.(A little indicator of where the planet is would help, too. So easy to smack into it while you're heading away from the battle.)
**MINOR SPOILER** #3.Do you use the device you get from the Spathi to stop the Ilwruthi attack on the Pkunk? I get the feeling I should, but I don't know what happens when I use it in Hyperspace.

Try looking at the SC2 files at PNF. They have the original colour hyperspace map in both zipped PNG form (in several pieces) and as a single JPEG. I suggest you download the JPEG unless you have a lot of bandwidth and like pasting images together. The Deluxe HyperSpace Map is like the hint book; it gives you lots of hints about where to go and it doesn't really belong to the game.
I see that I downloaded the wrong map. Hmmmm. Whoops. So much for getting through the game like it was meant to be. *BEGIN RATIONALIZATION* Eh, I probably would've discovered all those races anyway.
On the plus side, this color map is very spiffy.
I'm sure Fwiffo would love that indicator. It's not retreat; it's a strategic withdrawal to recover energy. I assume the computer opponents know exactly where it is; I also assume that its position related to the battlefield boundaries changes due to the loopover effect, making it near impossible to memorize where the planet is.
Also, I assume there are plans to tweak the battle zoom just a bit, right? I noticed that small shots have a nasty habit of disappearing when it's zoomed out at maximum range. "It IS firing, right? I don't see anything." Perhaps some code to make sure that a pixel always shows a shot if it contains a shot in it, even if the black space overpowers it majority-wise?
*THE QUESTIONS CONTINUE* 4.How many crewmembers can you take off the space station total? I've gotten up to 5RU/crewmember and I'm beginning to get nervous. I'm guessing that I've sacrificed 1500 of the suckers already, and I'm wondering how long I've got before I've got to draft the Good Ol' Starbase Captain. Do you get extra crewmembers from allies as well?
5.Approximately how long do you have year-wise before everything goes to hell? Vague, ominous answers appreciated.

Well, Hayes says at one point that there are nineteen hundred crew under him. I have never tried to overrun this apparently hard limit.
The game's time limit is several years. Not many, not a couple... several.

Well, the planet stays put and you and the enemy are flying around in an area twice as high and wide as the screen at the lowest magnification. With a little practice, you can actually keep track of the planet. In my experience, it's easier when you're travelling left, right, up or down instead of some odd diagonal direction or worse. Also, your trajectory will be noticeably affected when you approach the planet.
And I'm sure a Spathi can appreciate anything that makes his life less risky, even though it doesn't give him an excuse to retreat.
Also, I assume there are plans to tweak the battle zoom just a bit, right? I noticed that small shots have a nasty habit of disappearing when it's zoomed out at maximum range. "It IS firing, right? I don't see anything."
Version 0.2 doesn't handle this very well, but the current CVS version handles zooming much better.

I thought so. However, the "infinite crew" part comes as a surprise. What do they do, start cloning them?
I managed to reach the "1000 Crew Lost" checkpoint before time was up & the bad guys went on their rampage. Time to restart and go a bit faster. I guess I won't have to worry about losing too much crew, then. To the slaughterhouse!
Which brings up another good point: how many times did you guys have to play the game the whole way through (from Introduction to Grand Genocide) before you finally beat the thing?

One failed game, then a success. The secret the second time around? BUY FULL THRUSTERS. The rest came naturally.

Interesting. I might have been able to beat it the first time, but a few things threw me off.
For example, once you get far enough down the Sylandro Probe dialogue, one option starts spouting out coordinate numbers, seemingly at random. Believing that they showed the current location of a randomly-moving base in hyperspace, I followed the spewing coordinates around the galaxy on a wild goose chase. I probably wasted 6 months doing that before settling on my 2nd deduction: the Coordinates being spewed were just some glitch in the system. (Anyone else notice that?)
Between that and the fruitless attempts at finding "the beast" (which was going nowhere until I downloaded the actual constellation chart that showed the shapes of them), I probably wasted a year of gametime trying to do something.

Probe coordinates: try subtracting the coordinates they list from your current coordinates; you should end up with their origin coordinates.

I beat it the first time, but i spent an enourmous amount of time going through it that first time. I went EVERYWHERE, did everything!
I didn't discover the arilou for the longest time, I was sooooo excited when I realized I didn't have to fuel up 3-4 tanks to fly across the map anymore

This may be a spoiler if you want to figure out the numbers generated by the probes on your own.
The coordinates generated by the Slylandro Probes are simply the position of the probe relative to their origin (i.e. the origin of the probes is the origin of their coordinate system). However, the coordinate system used by the probes is not exactly the same as the Alliance system, so you may have to do some converting. The relationship is linear, so you should be able to work it out from two observations. Finding the solution is left as an exercise for the student.
