Kernel failed to load!
« on: June 28, 2003, 03:47:05 pm »

[zach@whacko /usr/local/games/uqm]$ bin/uqm
The Ur-Quan Masters v0.2 (compiled Mar  6 2003 03:59:33)
Saved games are kept in /home/zach/.uqm/save/.
Initializing SDL (pure).
SDL driver used: x11
SDL initialized.
Initializing Screen.
Set the resolution to: 640x480x32
Initializing SDL audio subsystem.
SDL audio subsystem initialized.
Initializing MixSDL mixer.
MixSDL using driver 'SDL_audio'
MixSDL Mixer initialized.
opened dsp at 44100 Hz 16 bit stereo, 2048 samples audio buffer
Initializing sound decoders.
Sound decoders initialized.
0 joysticks were found.
Kernel failed to load!

At this point there is a 640x480 empty window but thats as far as it gets. ^C kills it.

Tried the dynamic and static versions. I have the three media packages.

Gentoo linux SDL 1.2.5 SDL_image 1.2.2.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Mika. Thats what it was. (I swear I searched this forum for 'Kernel' before posting)..
Might pay to check for writable, or spit a more accurate error message to console - I know a lot of people install to /usr/local/games and wont think to make lib/uqm writable.

Anyhoo - thanks a million for the portage guys! Some of my fondest PC game memories of the last decade involve starcon2. Smiley
