A Serious Question...
« on: July 03, 2003, 07:16:54 pm »

OK, it's been 10+ years, so you can finally admit it:

Did anyone ever call 1.900.PKUNKRA after playing SC2?  Was it actually hooked up to anything, or was it a joke of the "throwaway" variety?

I was thinking for the re-release, it might be fun (in a Kaufman-esque kind of way) to setup that number for a few months, and put something on the other end as a surprise/gift to fans who have the money to waste spend.  Does anyone here have experience with doing this?  I've setup toll-free numbers before, is it pretty much the same thing?

My friend and I who beat the game debated it, but decided that dialing random 1-900 numbers was a bad idea. I don't know if we'd get any callers as a 1-900 number, and I don't know if we want to fund a 1-800 number...

Never called it, as we don't have 1-900 numbers over here. But the idea certainly sounds interesting. What'd you actually get to hear if you called that number though?

I couldn't if I wanted to, or so I was told.  My dad worked for the phone company and he said that he something setup or told them to not allow any 900 calls be connected from the house.  Don't know if he was bluffing or not, but it worked, I never tried to call a 900 number!

I attempted to call it. The number didn't exist, but this was in 95 or 96, so it was quite a bit after the games release. I did it at a friends house... just in case it worked.  Grin

Yeah, I briefly considered it, but it was already 1997 and I figured the game had been released so many eons ago...

Many phone companies allow customers to disable 800 and/or 900 # access. I'm not sure why you'd ever disable 800 # access...
