The Mirror of Triscan - The Road to 0.4, #5
« on: February 20, 2004, 09:09:14 am »

This is the fifth post in "The Road to 0.4", which tracks the progression of UQM a bit more informally than the ChangeLog does.

Previous posts: 1 2 3 4

Another six weeks or so, another update.  There's been a lot of changes under the hood these past few weeks, and we've upgraded the micro version to 0.32.  Changes since the last update here include:
  • I had mentioned in the fourth installment that a thread bug had been detected that crashed NPTL-based Linux systems.  A reaper has been added to ensure that all threads are cleaned up properly.  Anyone using 0.3 on Linux should update to the current CVS for stability.
  • A -l (or --logfile) command line option has been added.  This permits all the stuff that UQM blasts to the console window to be saved directly to a file instead.
  • A new scaling algorithm has been added, derived from the Scale2x algorithm.  Those of you who find biadv to blurry are encouraged to try out 'triscan.'  (The author of the Scale2x algorithm requested that we note the derivation but that we do not actually call the algorithm Scale2x.)
  • Way back in the first installment of "The Road to 0.4" I mentioned that the code used no fewer than five input cores, and that these should probably be unified at some point.  This task has been completed -- all in-game input is now run through a single interface.  (Meta-game input -- the pause screen, confirmation screens, and the like -- are still external to this.)  This has required fairly major restructuring of many chunks of the code (most drastically in interplanetary exploration), so those of you who enjoy living on the bleeding edge are encouraged to try to break this code.
  • A number of bugfixes that have been rotting in our Bugzilla tree have been committed.  Thanks to the patience of those who contribute the patches.

That's where we stand at the moment.

[Edit: fixed title]

God job!!! Is there a patch to "update"?

P.S I noticed a bug there is since 0.2v
no one seems to bother to report it or you just didn't fix it.
When you talk to the Syreen they continue to talk and the text isn't moving or it has diffrent words in it. Confirm me if anyone else reported it, since I have no clue how to use Bugzilla. It will be nice to know how to use it to if we are already disscusing it.

Where did it crash for u it crashed on me when I was at the Thraddash homeworld it was probably fixxed I haven't seen it bug (from 0.2) I didn't have the paticular voice file and it locked up froze completely in fact back then I didn't have any of the voice files.
DJ I reported it some time ago its listed on The Bug Database as
BUG# 482 (SILDER ERROR) Since this is in fact a trivial error and does not impact the way the game plays it will proably be one of the last or the last things to be fixxed.

We must each create our own paths. Do not mimic mine, I don't even like myself.
