Space Rangers 1 and 2 pc games

There are a couple of games out there that are similar to Star Control II. Those are:

Space Rangers
Space Rangers 2: Dominators

I haven't tried the second game yet, but the first one so far looks like a mix between Star Control 2 and Wing Commander: Privateer. You basically fly around in a little ship (2D like Starcon 2) doing missions, upgrading your ship, etc. Space Rangers 2 also contains cool planet-side 3D strategy aspect. There are RPG elements to the games as well.

I think only Space Rangers has been translated to English - but could be wrong - plus the games are not sold in US.

This is the closest thing I've seen so far to SC2/UrQuan Masters.

The game can be purchased through www.ozon.ru (Russian only site) among other sources.

There are many games that are similar to Star Control. In fact, this one looks like it has less similarities than, say, Starflight.

Actually I should have wrote "recent games similar to SC2".

I've read about those games. Seems real nice. It's the first time I've ever wished Finland had lost against the Soviets. Tongue

Anyone played Solar Winds?  That's another game that was pretty good I thought, and somewhat similar.
