Resource generation and repopulation
« on: September 19, 2005, 07:58:12 am »

Does planetary resources replenish over time?  Or is it; once it's gone, it's gone?

Also, Are the planets pregenerated, or do they change game to game?

1. Once resources are harvested they are gone forever.

2. They are pregenerated

I think you can get hold of lists of all the major resource/lifeform planets etc, but I'm not sure if anyone has made available a complete guide to every planet as yet.

Does anyone know of one?

Yes.. I have an Excel file I downloaded somewhere (don't remember where - could be the PoNF, though I can't verify because all the fileplanet d/l links are broken!Angry   with details for every planet in the game (world type, orbit, radius, temperature, weather, tectonics... etc).  Frustratingly, however, it does not list the mineral / bio stats (just notes whether the planet has life or not).

Hmm yeah I've noticed a lot of broken links there....

I might try and form a definitive list if anyone is willing to split the work with me (the more the merrier!)

You can generate a list from the source code. I've done it before.

They aren't completely broken. You just have to try to download the file twice (the file not found error you get the first time is incorrect!). I don't know why FilePlanet does this, but it's consistent, at least. I suspect they don't like people linking directly to files on their server.

FilePlanet is an extremely annoying file hosting service; their public servers are overloaded on purpose (in order to convince you to subscribe to the private servers), you have to register (so they can spam you and/or track your downloads for marketing purposes) and you end up clicking through a lot of ad-filled pages just (hopefully) to get a file. In their favour, however, they allow you to host huge files at no cost. In other words, the uploader gets away for free and the users pay for it by putting up with FilePlanet's nonsense.

If you require such information, you may find it at http://uqm.chumbucket.org. It will require Adobe's SVG plugin to work (which it should try to install by default).

There are lists in the SC2 Strategy guide.

I also have a list of all the worlds that have exotics on them.

They don't replenish, but you only need about 0.5% of it to complete the game.
