Music in 0.6
« on: December 21, 2006, 08:06:45 pm »

I had 0.5 installed, and installed 0.6 over it.  Since the install of 0.6 I don't have any music, in game, in super melee, or in the intro to the game,  The sounds of firing still work, just the music is gone.  How do I fix this.  Music worked quite well before the installation of 0.6.  I have the remix pacakages from 0.5 still installed. (they didn't go away with installing 0.6 over 0.5)

Edit, I've also noticed that Ilwrath ships constantly cloak and decloak, rather than staying cloaked untin they fire their weapons.  In addition they constantly rotate, rather than taking a heading to try and attack me.

Is music enabled in the setup menu?

For the Ilwrath bug, see http://uqm.stack.nl/forum/index.php?topic=3354.0

Yes, music is at maximum volume in the setup menu under sound.  In advanced options I'm using OpenAL (cause I have surround sound on my PC and wish to use positional audio) and have the sound quality set to high.

Thank you for helping me.

You could try throwing away your uqm.cfg file.
Does your UQM directory structure look like this?

Yes my directory structure looks like that, but my

C:\Program Files\The Ur-Quan Masters\content\packages\uqm-0.5.0-content.uqm

C:\Program Files\The Ur-Quan Masters\content\packages\uqm-0.5.0-3domusic.uqm

C:\Program Files\The Ur-Quan Masters\content\packages\uqm-0.5.0-voice.uqm

files all say 0.6.0 other than that they are the same.

I do have more files than those shown in the link.  I have the Comm folder (and apropriate subfolders) with all the remixes that were made after 0.5.0 for the Chmmr, Orz, Shofixt, Spathi, Supox, Utwig, and Zoqfot, even uninstalling and reinstalling, which corrected the Ilwrath problem.  I also still have the directory with the hyperspace remix music (I can't tell if that folder it's in is labeled Lbm or Ibm, since capital I and lower case L look the same on my PC).  Those sound directories have all the apropriate files in them.

I do also have the usual files in the UQM directory, that were there in the previous version.

I did uninstall and reinstall using the mirrors you mentioned in the other thread, and it corrected the Ilwarth problem. (those files I mentioned still remained though)

I also noticed that there are no longer UQM directories or files, in the Documents and Settings directory.

I'm out of ideas. Please add it to the bug database; perhaps someone else will have some useful input.

I also noticed that there are no longer UQM directories or files, in the Documents and Settings directory.

That sounds fairly ominous.  When you do the report, can you give the beginning of the stderr.txt log that indicates where saved games etc. go?

I figured out the problem, it was my computer settings and not the game.  I had set my EAX differently than before, when I changed my settings back the sound works properly again.  I noticed that some of my other games were having similiar problems, so I went through my sound settings and the problem is fixed.  So some of my games aren't compatible with the Advanced EQ settings in EAX, this is one of them, setting it back to Environment, Living Room, corrected the issue.

Perhaps the ZFP remix does not play because it is not in an official remix pack yet? The ZFP song is in the 4th remix pack, which has not been fully released yet.

EDIT: unless you "unpack" the files, add the currently released songs for the 4th remix pack to it renaming the original ones in the files and "repack" them again.

Hmm, can I unzip the remix package and use only the ones I like? If so what is the correct folder to install them?
And do I need to enable them with commandline option or do they work just by being in correct place?

Check your new Ur-Quan Masters shortcut to make sure that there's an "--addon remix" argument in it; it won't be there if you didn't tell it to install the remixes.  (Ordering the installer to reinstall stuff that's already there is fine; it checks the install directory won't try to download stuff that's already present and correct.)

The easiest way to do this is to make a new remix pack that has only the files you want in it, then put that in the remix directory instead.

You will need the commandline option --addon remix in order to have remixes available.  (If you put it in a directory besides addons/remix then replace "remix" with whatever the directory is.)  See the Technical FAQ for more details.
