I just finished (almost) the UQM port  for the 1st time., never having played it or Star Control before.
There is only the Kohr-Ar and the Ur-Quan  spheres left and every now and then they tell me I've lost.
Can I still win from here, or do I need to restart and not waste as much time?

concerned,
Bebe

It's theoretically possible, depending on what you've done up to this point and how much time you have left, but you probably need to restart (or go back to a previous save) and not waste as much time.

ETA:  More specifically, do you already know what you need to do to win the game?  If someone (in-game, not OOC) has already told you and given you what you need to do so, you've got a better chance.  But really, if everyone else is dead you'll only be saving yourself.  And humanity.

ETA 2: Found the end time:

On February 15 of the year you're in, the Kohr-Ah start their genocide.  On October 21 of the same year, if you haven't won, then the game ends.  So, you can look at the date and see how much time you have left.  If there's less than two weeks left and you don't already know what you need to do (you get told some specifics, not just "do something about ___"), you can't win.

Well, the Kohr-Ah don't seem to be offing themselves so far. I DID save the Shofixti. (I know - just one race). I also have been told everything the Melnorme have to tell me. I've ben most, but not all of the places they suggested, and I have lots of devices (sphere, helix, spindle, utwig bonb (can't find utwig) , Umgah and Burvix casters, taalo shield, and warp pod), but I am not sure how to win the game.

I'd like to win and then restart. Think I can win now?

You might be able to win at this point, if you hurry, and have somewhat more than two weeks.  If those are all you have in the "devices" window, though, it'll be a bit tight timewise.  I'm not sure exactly how long the travel to the necessary places takes.

Oh, no, the Kohr-Ah don't kill themselves, just everyone else.  Except the Ur-Quan.

It's good that you've saved the Shofixti, though; that can come in handy later.

Ooohhh.  Okay, well, you will need the Utwig bomb, so it's good that you have that.  If you haven't met them, that means you were only able to get it from that world because the Kohr-Ah killed them all so it was unguarded.  In the normal course of events, you'd have to get it from them by doing something from them.  They do (before they're wiped out) inhabit that region of space, so you should be able to find them there in your next game.

Have you talked to the Chmmr?  If you haven't, you really, really need to.  I'm pretty sure the Melnorme had something useful to say about that and their "Process"; they might have told you what world they're on.

What about the Yehat? (Actually not vital, but, again, useful later on.  If you haven't it's probably too late now.)  Although, if you've talked to the Yehat and actually seen their sphere disappear, that's a bad sign because the Yehat are the second-to-last ones on the death march.  (Earth, of course, is last.)

Have you talked to the Umgah yet?  Get anything from them?  The Arilou should have given you a reason to, if you've talked to them a lot.

Oh--did you do the Mycon quest?  (I would guess you haven't, if those are all the devices you have?)  Or if you haven't, have you met the Mycon?  I'm pretty sure this is another one of those things where you can either do the quest, or wait for them to be wiped out.

I have lots of devices (sphere, helix, spindle, utwig bonb (can't find utwig) , Umgah and Burvix casters,
taalo shield, and warp pod), but I am not sure how to win the game.

To win the game, you must destroy the Sa-Matra (do you know its location ?).
For this, you need the utwig bomb improved and built into your ship, by the Chmmr.
This work will need two weeks to complete.
To 'activate' the Chmmr, you need the sundevice, from the mycon.
To deploy the bomb you also need the talking pet, from the umgah.

So it looks like you still have a fair bit of travelling to do...
