I just realised that Nnngn does not have to be lifeforms. The Arilou say they come to "easy places", different easy places at different times, to trap Nnngn, only to let them go.
It could just be an analogy to fishing, but the Arilou say that "they are unimportant to you", implying they ''are'' important to them.
So what I am thinking is, maybe Nnngn refers to something abstract, like advanced theories, or ideas, or solutions to problems. Maybe they come to "easy places" for inspiration. "they dart and leap" could mean they can't quite get a grip on the problem. "letting them go" could mean sharing them with the rest, because ideas want to be free ("*Nnngn* do not like to be confined!").

Never thought of it like that, but it does fit...
Fascinating!

Well, while I do like this idea, it looks a bit far-fetched. Nevertheless, I like this idea very much.
My personal belief was that the *Nnngn* are some sort of interdimensional unsentient sprites/fairies used for fueling IDF. Not so fascinating, but that's my impression.
