How many of you read the Uplift series?

It just seems to me that a lot of the Star Control universe is inspired by this series, including the habit of Uplifting races.

I've heard that before, but never had a chance to read any of them yet  :-/  Also heard similar thing about the Ringworld books, and I have read all of them.  They were alright.

Ringworld and Star Control? Well -
1: Spathi and Puppeteers are similar in their skittishness.
However, Spathi aren't galactic traders and information exchangers. I just can't see Niffiwan or Fwiffo doing the elaborate Pupetteer blackmail procedure.

2: Ancient telepathic enslavers ( Slavers, Dnyarri).
However, the Slavers were the source of all ancient tech artifacts. Maybe there was a race before them, but it was their toys (or the Tnuctipun) that people find - not a race even more ancient (the Precursors)

Anything else?
Certainly there is SO much original material that I don't see a pattern of borrowing. Not even enough to sense an homage.

Not, say, like the Wheel of Time and Dune.

Yeah the Progenitors == the Precursors.  Also earthlings are not major galactic forces in either, they're just kinda space dickweeds.  On the other hand, Brin has a galactic civilisation, while SC has a kind of stellar/racial city-state thing going on.
