UQM for Symbian S60 3rd edition

Experimental support for S60 based mobile devices was added recently to UQM SVN. To get the port more testing, I've now created a page which contains a pre-built SIS package and other information about it at http://mk.kapsi.fi/uqm-s60/.

So if there's S60 smartphone owners here, feel free to test and report how the port works.

Hmm, upon SDL installation it asked me for permissions to access personal data and connect to the network.

So I cancelled, sry!

There is still mod music, i.e. the music from PC version. Only 3DO version music is missing.

As for the SDL, it does not actually connect to network or anything like that, they are just capabilities which are required by the SDL port to function. Since I did not do the SDL port, I do not know details of it. I think I'll try to check, whether it would be possible to compile SDL without those capabilities, to avoid confusion like this.

I got answer from the developer of S60 SDL and seems that the reason for this is that a library needs to have the same capabilities as an application which uses it. Currently UQM would not need those, since it is not reading or writing any data from e.g. memory card and netplay is not supported. However in the future, they would be needed for enabling addon packages and possible netplay/bluetooth support.

The message which user gets when installing is misleading and somewhat scary, but it is fault of the S60 platform security itself.

Ha! Cool, I have first 3rd edition phone ever made I think 3250. It's not good phone, cos it's huge and feels in pocket like huge matchbox (I did get it for free  Tongue), but now I must start using it again!

It means the free executable RAM after OS and other pre-loaded stuff has taken its share. Unfortunately a lot of the older phones, even expensive ones like first-generation N95 (not 8GB model) has relatively little amount of free RAM so UQM will not run for long on those. On my N73, there is about 15M and it is enough to start the game and play for like ten minutes until out-of-memory occurs.

It might be possible to optimize the memory usage somewhat but I haven't looked at it yet.

Tried to install to two of 3rd edition phone that I have, but it said that there isn't enough memory to install, but I had like 300mb free memory on memory card?

BTW this must work fine with dads communicator! Gotta ask would he let me install this.

installed it successfully on my nokia 5320xm.. game works well, albeit the loading times are a real pain,and navigating the star map is kinda hard with no zoom

There is now a new version available. Game startup should be much faster and starmap zooming is now accessible from keys '2' and '3'.
