« on: April 03, 2013, 06:31:33 am »

we could hold a paypal fundraising drive for uqm to submitted to steam's green light for a possible release  http://store.steampowered.com/app/219820/  just have to get toys for bob to sign off on it and get the 3do movies integrated into the game.

I'm not sure what the incentive would be to donate.  We can already play all the UQM we want for free, and so can anyone else who hears about it...how does paying to put it on Steam buy us anything?

If you want to do this, you would also need permission not only from Toys for Bob, but from every person who has contributed code to UQM, and if you want the movies, you'd have to track down and get permission from the company that inherited the copyright to them.  Paying that company enough to just have their lawyer review the paperwork would be a lot more expensive than the Steam submission fee.

It would be far more worth it to get the Debian packages up-to-date, and convince whoever holds the copyright to the game data to relicense it under a free culture license like CC BY-SA (so that distros with rules about free culture can include UQM).

For Windoze, there's always Desura. Nobody seems to have added UQM there, but it seems they allow anyone to do so. The UQM software is free and the game data is sharable, so anyone can do that.
