Star Control 2 Live Medley Remix
« on: August 08, 2003, 11:24:27 pm »

At Assembly 2003 there was (or actually going right now when writing this) Live concert,

http://asm03.assembly.org/Party_program/Events/Concert

(you can get the page in english too)

Now, you might wonder what this has to do with Star Control. Well, one of the bands (Axes Denied) played live remixes of classical game and demoscene songs. Surprise surprise, it included a live medley of songs from Star Control 2. Including Hyperspace, Commander, Melee, Thraddash, Arilou.. and so on Smiley

I'll post more when I know when I know where you can download this concert in mpeg/divx format. For now I've seen this concert only through RealMedia Live stream. Unfortunatelly I couldn't get to the place this year myself.. Sad

EDIT: There is no Arilou (mistaken for Syreen), and not sure about Commander. This because I wrote the message after hearing the song(s) just once through the live stream.

That's awesome, I've always wanted to go to one of those things.  Back in the day, I used to idolize future crew.  Alas, my DOS-Asm hacking back in the day never produced anything nearly as good as what the demos that appeared at these kinda of events.

Anonymous login.

It's 200MB video of the Axes Denied live concert part. I'm just downloading it.. I think I could make a cut of the Star Control 2 part in audio only for smaller download.

it's nice, but they play without emotion.
But this got me thinking...
maybe someone who knows them can get them to partake in the remixing effort?
I still like "our" remixes more, but I do think a full band can do better than just one person.

thanks for the different insight anyway.

Trimmed, video removed, mp3ed, de-poped, and hosted.

Its kinda cool acctaully.

I don't know if they would be against added a remix, they seem to be big fans of the game.  It couldn't hurt to ask (providing the remixed team didn't care of course).

Wow thats great.
I downloaded that thinking that SC2 MOD's could never sound good live, but man was I wrong.

I wish they would do some full length remixes, especially the yehat and thraddash.

Indeed they rock.
I'm all for asking them to make covers of every SC2 tune and putting it into the game (as an option of course).

WOW. Smiley

That's impressive!  I wonder what they would have done for the Melnorme mod, though... that's a good one and I sort of regret not hearing it.

personally, the HSpace music has always been my favorite... but the Kzer-Za,Yehat and Arilou are sort of tied for second.

I like the newer Q-space music better than the old one (pan flutes just don't do it for me).

As far as getting these guys to do a remix for one of the UQM versions... if they were willing to sit down and write out the tunes they've already redone, they might be fans enough to contribute the rest for free! Smiley

Well, I prefer loudness over normalization anyway. Although you lose some dynamics with loudness, you can boost more without clipping.

I, personally, would like to hear them do Slylandro and Spathi the most. Especially the Slylandro, there's a syncopated section at about 1:11 that would be hell for the drummer.
