I can't tell you how many times in the last how many years I have reinstalled SC2!

But XP was my downfall, no SC2 in XP (not with sound anyway, and what good is that?).

SC2 is still one of the best games I have ever played, and one of the few I actually finished! several times!

You guys doing the conversion are Heroes as far as I am concerned.

Really , Thank you from the bottom of my heart, .....now if you will hand me the finished game, yes thank you,  and step over ...here .... to the left ... yes that's fine.
I have a little transaction to conclude.... with the Druuge.

I had been thinking how great a port of the 3DO game to modern computers would be for a long time.  And when I read the announcement of a re-release on PNF, I was in near disbelief.  Chris, Meep-Eep, Gwl, and all of the other developers are my new gods.

I hear ya.  The game's ending text ALONE would have made me play it through twice, and since it was fun to boot, I played it *lots*.

Trying to recall the EXACT co-ordinates of Alpha Perseid,

It was my Gravis Ultrasound fandom (anyone remember that piece of premium sound hardware?) that brought me into contact with SC2.  I had collections of Euro "demos", mods etc... that showed off the "GUS".  While combing the Euro demo/mod newsgroups I saw the TFB call for mod musicians to help with the SC2 project.  Of course I had to get my hands on SC2 when it finally came out because of the novel sound system and GUS support, but I didn't expect to be locked away for a couple of weeks getting through it.  I can usually walk away from a game to eat, sleep etc...

I introduced my brother to the game just this year when I set up an old PC (P133 /w GUS Max) for our mother.  Sure enough he was hooked, but he didn't take the game seriously early and his saves look like he's almost out of time.

If/when you guys manage to come through (porting old code...  respect!) it will be fantastic.  Not only will my brother have an excellent excuse for a restart, but I'll finally be able to play SC2 on my ISAless PC, and I'll be running Debian GNU/Linux (RMS twisted my arm) to boot!  Still pinching myself...

I have tremendous problems with my comp with older, better games. And I'm no guru with machines, so I am not able to configure stuff to work. I prefer to wait for this Ur-Quan Masters come out and then, oh boym half of the problems are away.  Smiley

The other problem is Death Rally, but it's off-topic...

i'm glad someone mentioned the euro demoscene a few posts up.

the demo scene spread like wildfire to north america for quite some time (in fact, there were two demo parties held on the south shore of Montreal: one in 1995 and one in 1996, both of which are some of my favorite memories of life in general), and it was right at the dawn of the north american awakening of involvement into this scene (if i remember my history) that sc2 started drafting scene musicians for the cause.

the game was far ahead of its time.  not only did it support the new gravis ultrasound card (a card that sadly met its end too soon), but it could play the same four-channel music on the pc squeaker (a feat not tackled since the days of the amiga... and not really effectively tackled since that i recall).

the demo scene, in its near entirity, paid respects to star control two by effectively making it a mascot game (cult classic? the rocky horror of demo people?) and spreading the word.

there's a reason many of us have played it multiple times; myself six repeat performances from start to finish without using the planet lander cheat.  the content cannot and has not yet been rivaled.  the game is simply incredible.  ahead of its time then, probably still so today.

star control 3 was a decent game.  not necessarily the greatest follow-up to the greatness of 2 ... (more like a fan fic, if you ask me (: )

i know i'm looking forward to reliving the magic once again, as well as many friends of mine locally and world-wide who enjoyed the game immensely and are looking forward to doing so again.

(*cough* the music's gonna be good too *cough* (: )

(laughs)
...
Yeah, about the 4-channel music coming out of my PC speaker, that really blew me away. I wasn't even aware that the flimsy thing was capable of such a feat. Not only that, I was treated to cool music.

It's great that there is a "Thank You" topic here, and I would also like to say "Thank You" to all those working on this  Cheesy. I hope that this topic will be flooded with "thank you" posts.

The "demo scene"... I was like 10 or 12 or so, and I was exposed to the explosion of creativity with mods by my brother. I was really inept with computers let alone with anything "online" (internet? what's that!? I log onto BBS's!) at the time, and so had to rely on him. ... wonder whatever happened to it? (hint hint: any good URLs dishing out histories/etc. ?)

But yeah. Your post is really interesting, Azarule. Heh, the sub-culture of the Demo Scene.

One thing though. Is it just me, or is this project not getting enough attention??? I mean I'm just judging from the stats displayed on this Forum (the number of posts/views).

WE MUST SPREAD THE WORD Show the non-SC2 fans what they've been missing, and gather new support for Toys for Bob.

Like every other right thinking star control fan, I'm spending every waking second waiting..I've even been harassing non-sc playing fans to try and get them into the fold. May Dogar and Kazon smile upon you for doing this. (Sacrifices a few hundred Hu-mans in your honor)

Actually, I was wondering if you could be more definite about when we can expect to see the Alpha? This month, yes, but can you narrow it down more than that? I know its difficult to say, because there's always one more thing you'd like to do, and then another, etc etc etc, but are we talking days or weeks?
Whenever it is, I suspect the download server is going to experience a huge choke in the first few moments after release  Wink

Hey, did the powers that be miss my above query? Or did I just ask a really stupid, pointless question which doesn't deserve an answer?  Grin
Just in case its the former rather than the latter, i'm bumping it up.

to those who have put in all that time and effort to porting what is arguably the _greatest_ game in existence - thank you!

Played the original pc version at the tender age of 9, since then it has - at least until UQM - never left my pc. Ever.

In fact, it''s still here.
